Chak De!! India

On 14th Aug '07 I watched Chak de! India...And Wow!! What a wonderful movie to watch on the eve of Independence Day...Celebrating freedom of Indian women....
Bravos to Shah Rukh Khan for agreeing to act in such a movie which had no Box Office appeal and Yash Raj films for making such an unromantic movie...I don’t remember when I last loved a Yash Raj movie so much...Their Jhoom Barabar Jhoom was a nightmare... I was not even a huge fan of Veer Zaara...But Chak de is miles away from typical Yash Raj movie...
And of course Kudos to director Shamit Amin whose Ab tak chappan was great!! And now making a movie on Hockey in a cricket crazy country is a great feat!! And I don't think many of us remember Hockey is our National game....I myself remembered it just now...
And all 16 girls did a great job...Acting with SRK is not a child’s game...
Shah Rukh when acts naturally he does such a great job...He rarely does that though...I hate him when he overacts...That hamming eeeww!! Remember KANK?
I loved him in Swades, Paheli and now Chak de! Adds to the list...
Movie deals with so many things...
One of most important of them is how team spirit is so important in a game...Think about the country before we think about our states; Think about the team’s success before we think about our individual excellence...We should show the movie to our Indian cricket team..One of the important thing it lacks I think is Team spirit...Players always play for themselves, making highest runs, taking highest # of wickets...Anyways I should not comment on Cricket it’s been a long time since I stopped following cricket..
I’m not a sport crazy person...Never imagined I would watch a Hockey match in my life..:) But movie made me sit through it... And I enjoyed it thoroughly
Another thing that is shown in the movie is...
We Indians when a player plays well we worship him/her...And when the same player loses form we show him/her hell....And movie is based on true story of Mir Ranjan Negi. Can’t imagine what this person might have gone through...Why such a wrath on them?? Are they not human? In first place why think them as Gods and then demons? We should change this attitude...

And now last but not least...

My thanks to Shah Rukh, Yash Raj Films and Shamit Amin for making such a beautiful movie...Please keep making them without thinking their Box office fate and ignoring Numerologists who predicted the movie will be flop... ...There are still people who appreciate these kind of movies more than run of the mill movies...

Amitabh my most favorite Singer...

Today I was listening to "Main yahan tum wahan.." from Baghban...And I told my husband,” These days Amitabh Bachchan has become my most favorite singer..." I love almost all his songs...Recent one being Rozanna...He has sung it so soulfully...with all his heart...I have not watched the movie yet but I can feel what the character is going through...Even in Babul "Kehata hai babul.." song sounds better in his voice than in Jagjit Singh's voice...So imagine how much I love this man's voice...:)

Amitabh is a great actor there is no doubt in it...Those who still have doubts go watch Eklavya… Abhishek is a very good actor but he has long way to go....

He's one of the most inspirational person...He was nothing in late 80's and 90's...Like a Phoenix he rose from Ashes and bounced back at that age......At this age look at his energy level...People say he does too many movies n ads…I agree to that he’s too workaholic…But sometimes I feel at this age if he can work that hard shame on us. Even if we work half as hard as him we could accomplish our goals…

My hats off to this man....HE IS THE BEST!!!

RGV's Sholay

I'll have to change my statement. In the last post I said RGV is doing big mistake by making Sholay. Today I saw his Sholay's stills on Indiafm. I think this film might just click. First of all he's not taking Mohit Ahlawat in Big B's role. There is a newcomer who looks good. There Sushmita Sen in Jaya Bachchan's role, And my most fav Mohanlal is in Thakur's role. He's treat to watch. I have only seen his Company but still I'm his huge fan. Ajay Devgan and Nisha kothari are in for Viru Basanti's role. About which I'm very doubtful.
But I think this won't be very bad. In fact for Sushmita Sen's sake I wish this movie works.

Remakes: What do u think?

Today I came across a RGV interview on Indiafm. I like the way he speaks. Check it out here http://indiafm.com/features/2006/09/29/1642/index.html

He is remaking “SHOLAY” one of the BEST hindi commercial movie ever made in Bollywood. I totally consider it blasphemous to even think about remaking that movie.

Actually RGV was one of my favorite directors.  When he announced he’s remaking “Sholay” I started hating him…That too with Mohit Ahalawat for Jai’s role. Senior B in Gabbar’s role is fine. Bcoz Big B is a great actor he can carry off any kind of role. And Abhishek Bachchan for Viru’s role is also fine though Jai’s role would have been better but still it’s not a bad idea. He’s a good actor. But that KID (Mohit A) won’t even be able to stand in front of these two Bachchans.

I don’t know what RGV thinks of himself. First he remade ‘Shiva’ as ‘James’ it flopped. Then he himself directed ‘Shiva’ again. Even that flopped. Still he doesn’t learn the lesson. I do know if he’s the same person who made Rangeela, Company, Koun and Bhoot.

You can call me biased but I’m all fine with “Don” remake. Farhan Akhtar is my fav director. I even liked his “Lakshya”.But I’m really apprehensive about Shahrukh carrying off a role which Mr. Bachchan did. Let us wait and see.

I even don’t like the idea of remaking “Umrao Jaan”. Come on Aishwarya in Rekha’s shoes? Give me a break!! Aishwarya has to take several janams to come even closer to Rekha’s level. In that “Umrao Jaan” is one of Rekha’s best works…

You know why I hate remakes. Next generation will watch newer versions won’t bother to watch old ones. Even if the remakes are good they can’t be better than old ones. I want them to watch those classics and appreciate good films.

May be new movies will make them watch old ones…Who knows? But still…No more remakes for me...

Jaan-E-Mann Songs

I love hindi songs...From 1940s to 2006 songs. These days I don't listen to all the movie songs. First I check the reviews then I listen. I saw Jaan-E-Mann music review on Indiafm. Actually I'm not a Indiafm fan. I hate Taran Adarsh reviews. But their music reviews are most of the time very good. I heard Jaan E Mann songs I didn't like them at first but on second and third hearing they r really good.
Poor Anu Malik (he changed his name's spelling but i don't remember to what) despite being a really good musician doesn't really get appreciation.
I'm a huge fan of Gulzar. I like almost all of his songs...He's the BEST. So may be I'm little biased when I say JaanEMann songs are good.
And Anu Malik true to his word has given break to Indian Idol contestants. The song sung by Amit Sana, Rahul Vaidya and other 2 female contestants is really good. It's good to see these guys are making it big. I wish all the best to them. I liked Karunya during last season. Poor fellow lost to totally undeserving Sandeep. But I'm he's going to succeed. My son loves his "Aane Char aane" from LRMB.
I suggest go for this album(Jaan-E-Mann) Either download or buy! It's worth the time and money.

Crocodile Hunter

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died following a stingray attack. A great human being whose goal in life was conservation of wild animals. It is such a irony that the a person who played and handled all kind of wild animals died following a stingray attack, one of the mildest animal.
According to wikipedia: Dasyatids(Family of Stingrays) generally do not attack aggressively or even actively defend themselves. When threatened, their primary reaction is to swim away. Life holds all kinds of surprises.

Some suggestions for Rediff Iland

I want to provide some suggestions to Rediff Iland. They should provide spell checking tool when we're writing a post or commenting. Those who write comments they should be able to delete, modify their comments. And once I had written a long comment on some post and by mistake I had entered wrong username/password and my whole comment has gone when page updated for telling me you entered wrong Username/pw. They should improve on these things. I hope someone from technical department views my post. And hope they hire good QA people.
Also their Shopping cart application sucks big time. I had created a better shopping cart application than theirs when I was in school. I mean during masters...

We'll always miss you.

27th of Aug.One of the worst days. There was a plane crash in Kentucky. All the passenger baring one were dead. Then I heard the news of Hrishikesh Mukharjee. One of my most favorite director. I was really sad that day. When I was in India I never used to miss his movies on TV. Be it Chupake Chupake, Gomaal, Guddi, Mili, Anand...any of them. Even if I have watched them 100 times before. Even during exams I used to watch them.(You know some relaxation ;) ) I love those movies. Now here in US I don't have Hindi channels at home. I disconnected them bcoz of those stupid serials, But I'm badly missing those movies.

When you read that there were very few people who bothered to visit Hrishida when he was in Hospital. You feel even sadder. Then you remember his "Guddi". People care only for influential stars. I mean he made one of the biggest star's( i donno if putting the stars name might create some prob) career. I agree Prakash Mehra made him but First step was taken by Hrishida. Atleast he should have taken some time to pay his last respects to him. He is one of my most fav actor but...When u read something like that you doubt is filmworld very similar to what was depicted in PAGE 3. I know it is but somewhere you feel your fav stars aren't like that.
Hrishikesh Mukharjee was the best. With him there's an end to the era. With Johars, Chopras who're going to give us those endearing emotional comedies which we could really relate. (Yash Chopra is one of my fav directors. But his old movies not his new ones.)
Anyways I pray to god "May he rest in peace".

KANK: 3 hrs of Headache(SPOILER ALERT)

I was waiting for KANK so badly. I'm not a KJ fan. I hated KKHH but can watch that movie 100 times just for Kajol. I knew KANK won't be a great movie but expected it to be entertaining. But...

By now everyone knows the story. Two married couples, two failed relationships..blah blah and blah.

I've always failed to understand KJ's Fundas. I couldn't fathom why Shahrukh loves Kajol in the second half in KKHH and not in First half. Is it bcoz she wasn't sexy enough in the first half? What kind of love is that which goes on looks?? Anyways we are not discussing KKHH.

In KANK I don't know why they always emphasized on failed relationships. The relationships (Marriages) fail because of Shahrukh and Rani. How do they expect two failed people to have a successful relationship?? First of all they have not shown why they hate their spouses and why they go looking around for love outside their marriages when their respective spouses love them so much. Cheating is cheating. They would have first divorced their spouses and then loved each other or something. As far as I remember till now there is no movie which has shown happy ending for cheaters. Just to set the new trend or break the mold KJ should not have shown what the ending he has shown. The mold has already been broken by Indian soap operas. Watch Ek Ladaki Anjanisi or any other serial everywhere that’s what runs 24 hrs.

The only good things about the movie are its music and song picturisation. You should watch Tumhi dekho na…When it started I wished I had remote to forward the songs but I was wrong the song is really beautifully picturised. I don’t know who the choreographer is. And other songs Where is the party tonight? & Rock n Roll are really enjoyable. In both Songs there are pleasant surprises…

KJ considers Yash Chopra as his ideal. Yashji made movies like Silsila and Kabhi Kabhie. This is what KJ has learnt from Kabhi Kabhie and Silsila??

Karan Johar thinks he is an expert on Marriage institution. I saw on his website that he has given a big lecture on Arranged Marriages, Love marriages, and those who marry for parents and money. There're people who are extremely happy in Arranged marriages and people who have Love marriages would have never divorced. I don’t believe marriages are made in heaven but wherever they are made to make them successful there has to be Faith, Love and Understanding on both sides

On the acting front Shahrukh Khan is at his worst. You hate his acting same way like when you hate Jim Carrey when he overacts. I used to like SRK before this movie especially Paheli and Swades. Rani is fine. Priety is good though doesn’t have much role. Amitabh is as always good.

And of course is the best actor award for this movie goes to AbhishekJ.

I will never recommend this movie to anyone.Total wastage of money and time. I wish I had watched Omkara instead.
